PROTECTING DEMOCRACY
Bring Balance to the House: An Unchecked Supermajority Threatens the Very Essence of Balanced Governance.
When has it become unnecessary to make sure a Judge doesn’t enrich themselves, unduly, having a vested interest in a company or cause? When has a representative government not needed to rely on the counterbalance of a judiciary to curb overzealous legislative bodies? Or an Executive, not need to have their power interpreted, lest they be abusive? The answer is never. It is the heart of the Tricameral structures of balanced power. Executive, Legislative, Judicial. Co-equal, overlapping powers meant to temper inordinate influence.
In North Carolina, the legislative majority, in defiance of Checks and Balances, wants to regulate its own elections, circumventing the will of the people, making it harder to participate in Democracy. Defying judicial rulings, while injecting itself into the local Boards of Elections. Coupling it all with gerrymandering, apparently now “done with surgical precision to target black people”, the Republican seeks to dominate, if not decimate all traditional structures of governance.
Preserving democracy is at the core of my campaign. In North Carolina, an unchecked supermajority threatens the very essence of balanced governance. I am committed to ensuring that no single party dominates the Legislature, as it's essential to prevent overreach and uphold the values of our diverse population. By promoting bipartisanship, I aim to create a legislative body where ideas are debated, compromises are sought, and decisions reflect the collective will of the people. Together, let's restore the equilibrium, fostering a government that truly represents all North Carolinians.
