Hi, I'm Matt

WHERE I COME FROM

My name is Matthew William Wood. 54 originally from Belleville, New Jersey. I've been married for 25 years to my wife Mary, and I'm the proud father of Mattie Elizabeth, 11, and George William 6, both born here in Johnston County.  My parents were originally from Clayton, North Carolina, and I came home many years ago to stick by family and take care of them. When I was 11 I started mowing grass. By 13, I was at my parents' feed store every Saturday. Sometimes there was work, sometimes not, but I always showed up. By the time I was 15, I was working at a McDonalds in Pekin, Illinois for a few years. By summer ‘87, my junior year at Dollarway High School in Arkansas, I joined the US Army Reserves. I served as a Reservist for many years before going to school and earning my BA from Coastal Carolina University.  Now I work as an insurance broker, committed to guiding people towards the best quality of life, while raising our two children.

MISSION STATEMENT

Bring Back Balance to the House

Matt's mission is simple: to put the needs of the people of the 26th District first, and prepare it for the future. He believes in equal opportunity, justice for all, and will work tirelessly to represent the true interests of this growing community. As long as the current House remains unchallenged, these interests will remain unheard.

In North Carolina, the legislative majority, in defiance of Checks and Balances, wants to regulate its elections, circumvent the will of the people, and make it harder to participate in democracy and enjoy your rights. Defying judicial rulings, injecting itself into the local Boards of Elections, while coupling it all with gerrymandering our districts, the Republicans seek to dominate, if not decimate all traditional structures of governance.

Matt aims to help curb this unrepresentative supermajority, and NC-26 needs that change.
